Save the Rainforest! Save the World!

If you have watched the TV miniseries heroes, you have heard the phrase “Save the cheerleader, save the world!”, however that is only on TV. However, if you “save the rainforest, you will save the world!” for real. If you are asking, how can I save the rainforest? That is so huge. It’s obvious that you can’t travel to Africa and pickett in front of an army of bulldozers to stop them from cutting down trees, however you can recycle paper products and stop eating at McDonalds? What? How can that help save the rainforest? The rainforests of the world are being cut down to make paper products for many fast food restaurants throughout the world and the biggest culprit is McDonalds. As per the following article, http://www.mcspotlight.org/case/pretrial/factsheet.html, McDonald’s is cutting down 50 acres of the rainforest every minute.

You are probably saying to yourself, I can’t live without McDonald’s. Why is McDonald’s doing this? Simple, people around the world are spending their hard earned money to eat at fast food restaurants like McDonald’s for carry out and eating inside quickly and the quickest delivery method is paper products. McDonald’s entire food industry is utilizing paper products. Think about it. When you go into McDonald’s and get a meal, you are ordering a sandwich wrapped in paper, wipe your face with a paper napkin, drink from a paper cup, eat fries out of a paper container, eat pie and ice cream out of a paper container with plasticware, then go to the bathroom and after you wash your hands you dry your hands with paper towels. That’s a lot of paper and plastic and that is just for one person. That paper and plastic McDonald’s is using is a result of cutting down trees in the rainforests. McDonald’s does this for billions of people all over the world because it is the largest fast food monopoly on the planet. Of course, McDonald’s is not the only fast food restaurant doing this, there are many others, however McDonald’s is leading rainforest destruction.

If you have a child who whines that they want to go to McDonald’s you can tell them they can have a hamburgers and fries at home. It is actually easy to buy hamburger, soft drink, and fries at a grocery store and eat it at home. It will be cheaper than McDonald’s, the food is healthier, and you will be helping to save the rainforest. If you want to make fries quickly, go to the frozen food section and buy Ore Ida fries or tater tots. They are actually healthier for you than McDonald’s fries and that plastic bag that they were contained in can be recycled in your recycling bin for plastic. Why should I care about rainforest destruction in Brazil or the Amazon? Ever heard of global warming? Of course you have if you watch TV, read the newspaper, or even browse the Internet. People talk about global warming every day. One of the biggest reasons why we have global warming affecting the entire planet is because the rainforests are depleting. There is no place for the toxic fumes from car emissions and other harmful chemicals to be absorbed. Don’t just take my word for it, read about the effects of global warming due to rainforest destruction and what people are doing to protect it:http://www.rainforestlive.org.uk/index.cfm?Articleid=470 http://www.worldviewofglobalwarming.org/pages/tropics-oceans.htmlhttp://news.mongabay.com/2006/1023-interview_fearnside.htmlhttp://www.ran.org/why_we_do_it/

Do you want to save the world? If your answer is yes, then you need to recycle, recycle, recycle and stop eating at fast food restaurants. You can still eat out at other higher end restaurants such as Applebees and Red Lobster. There is a big difference in eating at these restaurants other than the actual food. Instead of paper and plastic, you are using actual plates, glassware, and silverware. No acres of rainforests are destroyed for those.Medicine is another very good reason to save the rainforest and save millions of lives. If you have seen the movie Medicine Man, then you know what I am talking about. Only a few years later, what was shown in that movie has been happening in real life. A cure for cancer has been found http://www.rainforestrescue.org.au/article_17.html in the rainforest. Cancer medicines and other medicines are being destroyed daily http://www.rain-tree.com/ and could very soon disappear from this planet if rainforest destruction continues.

I hope that you will do what you can to save the rainforest by recycling, eating at home and upscale restaurants instead of fast food restaurants, and if possible, getting involved in the rainforest preservation efforts as indicated on the site http://www.wilderness.org/ and through many other organizations.

Remember. Save the Rainforest! Save the World!

But fast food is cheaper than applebees!

Hello Fast Food person,

Yes, I agree that fast food is cheaper than Applebees on your wallet, but not the environment! That's why I eat mostly at home, eat home cooked food at work, and eat frozen dinners which don't cost much to buy or waste much paper. The whole point of the article is to impress upon the importance of doing what you can for the environment to save the planet. Eating at home or eating out at a restaurant where paper products are hardly used is a good way to help limit the amount of paper products you use. If people around the world only go to fast food restaurants rarely instead of every week or daily then McDonald's and other fast food establishments will have no reason to continuously cut down the rainforests which ultimately will result in millions if not billions of lives lost on Earth due to drastic climate changes and the extinction of life saving drugs because there are no rainforests.

We have already seen many effects of global warming including rising tides and more frequent tornadoes. If you have watched the movie titled "Day After Tomorrow!", you can relate. If not, I encourage you to rent this movie so that you fully understand how global warming can change the entire climate of planet Earth.

Sincerely,

pcscholar

There are other things you can do, like buying goods / services with companies that give profits to charities who are trying to stop the destruction of the rainforest: http://www.rescuetherainforest.org

Interestin point of view. De-forrestation is a big problem and I agree something needs to be done about it. The problem comes that the U.S. has no control over what the countries that are wiping them out does. They are 3rd world countries and in many cases it is the major source of income for that country. By stoping eating at McDonalds (I hate McDonalds anyway) it will put a larger burden on the U.S. economy because we are the major suplier of aid to 3rd world countries. I agree that the rain forests need to be saved but the way to do it is educate and train the people of those country so they don't rely on that industry and they can devote time and energy to other ventures.

I don't quite understand your point on the McDonalds thing but I'll take your word you researched this topic. I don't know why you picked the rainforsts in Africa, the Amazon is the largest and the one getting the most abuse. I do agree though that deforestation needs to stop before its to late! (Fast foods not to blame its the people that order it!)
