Ok so I turned 40 and didn't feel a sudden life crises overshadow me. But of course had a overwhelming need to recheck my goals. Ok so the dust was so thick, I tossed them out and restarted all over again. Hey 40 is the new anything right? I am loving it and am having no worries as of yet.
Some of my goals I am re evaluating, revamping and renewing:
1. Go back to college to graduate and get a law degree.
a) Ok so I started off where I left off 19 years ago. I am still a sophmore and lost some of my previous credits. But for the most part many of my core classes still counted. So college education is in progress. First goal is in progress.
2) Get my 19 daughter off to college.........DONE - Yeah for her and me.
3) Ensure that my 14 year old survives his sophmore year at high school. In progress.
And yes there other personal goals. But these are the major 5 at the moment that are vital and important to me at the moment.
So I had enrolled in a Math 125 class - College Algebra. I had all the pre req for it. But it had been several years - Ok lets say 15 years since Elementary Algebra. I understood half of the stuff, got about 60 % of the questions right on the homework. I just figured drop it and take a refresher course during winter.
So I immediately went and picked up two other classes to keep myself enrolled full time at 12+ units. I picked up Law 1 and Political Science 1. Both classes I soooooooooooo get and fully understand. Something I really can get into and feel comfortable and confident in passing without being overwhelmed.
In the mean time, I am reviewing the math book I bought and quizing/reviewing in between my other studies, work and raising 2 teenagers. Anywayssssssssssssss, blah blah, blah, blah blah and so on. Another day in my life.

so many people that tell themselves they'll go back to school eventually never get around to it, so congrats to you for sticking to your guns! good luck in school and good luck with that algebra. yikes. =P

Good for you! I'm wishing my mom would do the same to finish her education and get a at least a Bachelor's. She doesn't even have too many credits to complete; she just needs to get back to school.

She can go online. Most colleges and universities are online. Once there go directly to the admissions area. Somewhere there should be something about transcripts. Usually the first two are free. And I had a learning experience from my transcripts. The schools, no matter who they are, only want the transcript sent directly from school to school. No more hand carried, sealed transcripts. So I am in the process of doing so. Atleast the college counselor was able to determine what classes still counted and what didnt. I was able to get into the higher math class.
Trust me, with a little encouragement on your part. Your mom will think about finishing her education more serious.

I think she is waiting until my brother is done with high school to go back.

That is awesome keep encouraging your mom to go back especially if she is almost done. It can be a wonderful thing just to help her with her future. She probably sacrificed to raise you or whatever tmi.

Ok. Every person has their timeline. I was going to wait. But with the encouragement of my son. He is 14. I thought that I would be finished with my BA at least by the time he finishes high School Also the fact I would like a job change. I am in the health field. And I would like to go on with my first dreams of work.
So whenever she decides is a good time for her is really the best time. So when she does, cheers and a big kudos for making a bold move.

Go for it! Since I attend a community college, I have classmates who are about 30-70 years old. Yes, I have a classmate who is as old as my grandmother...even older actually. But anyway those people always bring a smile on my face because they seem to be more education motivated. I mean, sure they probably want to get a degree so they can get a better job. But something in them must've been like, "I want to go back to school and learn more." Well, I'm happy for you and your daughter. Keep it up!
