I am a huge supporter of adoption. I have a cousin who was adopted from China and I will definitely consider adopting children myself when I am older and more established. With major celebrities recently adopting (Meg Ryan, Angelina Jolie, Carista Flockhart, and Madonna) it got me thinking... why has no one adopted a domestic baby? The only celebrity I could think of that has adopted American children was Rosie O'Donell. Is it not as cool or humanitarian to adopt American children? Is it only cool if the child does not look like you, so then you get the attention? Definitely not. Adoption is done for more reasons than that and I think that children are in need everywhere and thinking of adoption as just being a foreign thing is wrong. Maybe it is just an American thing? I don't hear about too many European, Asian, or African people adopting American children. It is pretty obvious why not in some cases (over-population or lack of money and resources), but it does make a point. If celebrities have enough power to trend the adoption cycle then hopefully one will have enough courage and sense to adopt an American child.
American Babies... Undesirable?

I know what you mean, and I have in fact wondered about this on many occassions. The only answer I have ever come up with is that maybe they think that either:
1. There aren't that many American children who need to be adopted.
2. It is more important to adopt foriegn children, because they live in worse conditions.
I personally support them adopting American children.

Today our society has the same if not more children in need of adoption than those outside of America. We cant help others until we help ourselves. Don't neglect our own country in order to save another. I say if you are going to adopt a child who is not "american" then you need to adopt an "american" child for every "non-american" child you adopt.
Another reason we don't adopt as much in the U.S. is it is MUCH harder to get newborns. There is a much longer waiting list in the U.S..
I've been thinking about this alot lately and I feel, that people just must want something unusual. They want to feel like they're caring for someone way beneath them on the social economic scale, and they feel that means to adopt out of the realm.
