The Heart of the Hmong Refugee in Nong Khai

Tagged:  •

Nearly two years since the 153 Hmong refugees were rounded up in Bangkok and sent to Nong Khai IDC in Thailand. In many different instances, all children, women, and men face burtal torturing inside the facility. On January 30, 2007, the group faced deportation by force from both Thai and Lao authorities. In June and July of 2007, the group's belongings were taken away by Thai authorities including their mosquito nets and were cut off from clean drinking water. On September 2007, the group went on a hunger strike. Torturing and suffering from history for the refugees continues to the current time. No green light for them to live life as human beings but the continuing of facing events of "trauma."
Many of the young teenagers find nothing to do or free their mind instead, they began to sew ornament beads as a piece of art with shapes as a human heart. It signifies their heart of suffering and wanting to share to the outside world that their hearts have been burtally burried. With so much torturing they are passnate to a symbol of the small beads and made hearts. With this the teenagers signify their art to replace those children who were attacked by trained dogs from the Thai Third Army. With an interview on the telephone with a close relative, many of the teenagers stated "our hearts go to yours" and their heart beads are just a piece of object but "it is what we make to signify love in memory of us," said the teenagers.
The heart beads were shipped from Nong KHai IDC to close relatives in the US to ask for donations in memory of the children who have and currently are being burtally tortured along with their parents.
