So the writers strike has become a big deal. It's entering the second week and shows like "The Colbert Report" and all the late night talk shows are affected, being in repeats and the hosts aren't crossing the picket lines. That is leading to reports saying that Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien's non-writing staff to be laid off. Another option is hiring temporary hosts so they can save the jobs of those non-writers. Only problem is, you do realize that the writers aren't getting paid right now either right?
Also, The WGA East is saying Ellen is not welcome in New York since she crossed the picket lines, and writing her show herself. Well, see here, Ellen is doing the same thing that Johnny Carson did in the 1988 strike, crossing the picket line to help his other staff. What is wrong with that?
Honestly, this writers strike needs to end. I doubt the writers will get everything they want, but I think the producers and companies need to find a good point in the middle so our shows aren't affected too much (i.e. "Heroes" only ending in 11 episodes for a season, "Lost" only airing 8, "Scrubs" possibly not having a finale, or "24" not coming back at all). I'm sure that the writers don't want to be out there on the streets either, nor do the stars that no longer have jobs, but they are fighting for what they believe in and what seems to be right, so I think its time to do whats right and compromise.
But then again, maybe people will start reading a book, like my former blog suggested here.
