With so much of my time spent focusing on learning about things that I had never really focused on before, I seem to come up with ideas that may seem a little bit behind other people's thinking but I'm getting there and I'm getting there through my own thought process which is an amazing thing to me right now. I came to realize that the tax system, something that I had just taken for granted as a thing that just was and always would be, wasn't the set in stone set up that I had assumed that it was. My ideas may not be fool proof but they are long thought over. If you disagree, than I beg of you tell me why because I am striving to understand this confusing mess little by little and this is as far as I got.
For many years, we have had the same, or at least a similar, tax system. At this time our Federal Dept is over nine trillion dollars and rising. Taxes seem to cause more stress, arguments, and confusion among the working classes than anything else, while those who are in the high end income brackets are able to take advantage of tax breaks and those in the lower tax brackets are left paying more than their share. Just with that basic information, it would seem that something does truly need to change because the present situation is apparently not working. With spending too high and taxes confusing and unbalanced, it would seem that we’ve reached a point of reorganization.
The idea of different income brackets seems to be obsolete. Instead of changing the tax percentage rate based on a person’s rate of pay, the American government should instead function on a flat percentage rate system. No confusing and varying calculations, just a flat percentage rate across the board. Those who work harder and earn more will pay more in taxes, but would also still see the benefit of their added effort. At this point in time, any added effort and/or time will send a person into another tax bracket meaning that what extra was earned goes almost completely towards taxes. With a flat rate percentage rate system, a lot of our current problems would be solved.
While a flat percentage rate would improve our tax situation, it would not solve the full problem alone. It would be almost useless without the add benefit of ridding our country of unfair tax breaks. Big businesses and those who currently fall into the high end income brackets are able to take advantage of tax breaks and loop holes that simply need to be abolished. They are only allowing taxes that rightfully need to go towards the needs of this country, to be kept by those who make enough to actually afford the taxes placed upon them.
While taxes are something many people wish we could do without, I accept that they are a “necessary evil”. They are what keep this country running. They pay for many of the things that we take for granted but with some basic reorganization of our current system, it should be possible to handle the Federal Debt in a steady manner that will allow for more control of that problem without sending the country’s entire economy into turmoil. If it was paid off completely it would do just that, but with this system, there is the definite possibility of positive progress towards a better America.
I know... spending would also have to decrease but I'm working on one problem at a time.
