Family

All throughout high school the goal I was working towards was to get accepted into a college out of state, and just get out of this hell hole! My family and I were always arguing, there were constant screaming fights and I felt like I couldn't breathe due to my parents strict rules. I remember all the talks with my friends consisting of hatred and despise toward our families, we wanted to get out from under our parents wings and make decisions for ourselves.
I did end up achieving my goal to attend an out of state university. After I found out where I was gonna be going, the summer couldn't end any faster and I just wanted to leave! Not being home for less than a semester, I realized exactly how important my family affected my life and how much I need them to be there for me. I've been home twice over this school year and both times I spent a surprisingly more time with my family than friends.
I know some of my friends here at school don't really get along with their parents either, and they don't go home even though it's only a few hours drive away. If I was them, I probably would be going home every other weekend or more. Parents are like our backboard, the network we rely on to be there for us. Moving away I realized that as a family we are making stronger ties, I see how much they worry and care for me and hopefully they see how much I appreciate them.

I'm glad you were able to realize how important family can be. It's amazing how college can help us grow up and mature in our impressions of things like family. Perhaps you want to tell your family how much they mean to you... I'm sure they would appreciate hearing it.
