Good Ol' Fashion Walkout?

Let me first say, I am for illegal immigrants.

Not for illegal immigration but for illegal immigrants. I don't particularly agree with how they got to the United States but as long as they are here doing good, honest work and making a good, honest living I'm all for them staying and continuing to live the life they have made for themselves.

But what do illegal immigrants hope to accomplish today?

I understand why they are doing what they are doing. If they don't go to work they will let society see what impact illegal immigrants have on the United States. But why gather in one place for the whole world to see? Illegal immigration is just that - illegal. Now the authorities know who you are. Granted, they knew before hand but now they essentially have proof and reason to come after you.

I don't know.

I like a good protest and all but, really, I can't see how putting yourself at risk of deportation will be good for anyone in the long run.

I don't think that they can all be taken at once :D

But some are more honest than the legal people. I mean, they are here, you can't make them all leave. And an example of why "some" should be made legal:

My friend was valegdectorian in high school. She did everything to graduate from school, and she will finish 1 year early. She has straight A's. Her family has a good job and they pay for her school. The dad was getting the papers ready when they something happned to become illegal. Now she is about to graduate with a Psy. major. The problem? Illegals can't get jobs.
I think some deserve it more than others. We take our status as granted.

I kind of worry about them still. If not the police then others may come after them. We had local Mexican restaurants warned to stay open for risk of the Klan.

But, like I said, I'm all for illegal immigrants. I have friends with illegal family and friends with illegal fiancees all over the place. Some of these people are some of the hardest working people I know. They realize how good they have it in the US even if they aren't here legally. They're good folks and I'd rather they have citizenship.

It really bugs me with all the people that say the only reason Mexicans are in this country is to live off of welfare. Really bugs me. :-/

Too many, too soon, to fast, no assilmilation process, no disease control. I am all for helping people however this lack of our government doing its job at all levels is the start to The United States looking like and acting like any other third world country. I personally do not want to live in El Salvador or Mexico. The government in LA has allowed gangs to own territories. They run just like a third world country. I don't think that is why we pay taxes. Where did all the tax revenue go over the last twenty years that was suppose to control immigration? You are about to get bent over a table and asked to enjoy it or at least stay quiet. Oh by the way do you have any more money for taxes?

Your friend is the exception to the rule in that culture. Besides all that they are ILLEGAL. There are people around the world that have been waiting in line for up to 15 years to get here. What a slap in the face for doing things the right way. The word chump comes to mind. If you will lie, cheat or steal to get your way in one area... why not other areas? It is wrong.

They're not all illegal. Some of them are legal immigrants who can't (for whatever reason) take their family with them to America. Some of them are sympathizers.

Regardless, the problem is that they're "taking our jobs." The problem is that Americans aren't willing or aren't able (due to minimum wage laws) do the job for as little money as the immigrants are asking. It seems like the easiest way to combat that problem is to abolish minimum wage laws. It would certainly do a wonder for gas prices.

It would also do wonders for the standard of living of the people at the bottom of our economy. And I don't meant that in a good way.

Illegal aliens can afford to work for sub-standard wages because they live third world conditions. It is not uncommon for them to live 20 to a house or in garages or basements.

Do we really want people who work in America at 40 hour per week jobs earning 3rd world wages and living third world lives? Remember 70% of our economy is driven by consumption and without decent wages there won't be much consumption.

A defining characteristic of every 1st world economy is a tight labor market with workers being valued and paid decent wages. A defining characteristic of every 3rd world economy is abundant cheap labor with workers being treated like disposable chattel.

The answer is to protect our workers at the bottom by controlling the supply of unskilled workers. If we kept the illegals out, then the minimum wage would be irrelevant because the prevailing wage would exceed the minimum wage. Lets keep America in the 1st world.

Lies! Minimum wage is an illusion to make the poor poorer. Here's how it works:

When you set a minimum wage, you set zero, that is unemployment, at a number. Anything below that number then becomes relatively negative.

Because of this, those working minimum wage are essentially receiving no disposable income. This is why most people on minimum wage are on welfare. You can't make a living off of zero.

Now, were there no minimum wage, those unemployed would have more opportunity to work (because they wouldn't be shut out of jobs based on profit shortages), and there would be no person on minimum wage (because who would work for $0?).

America was a first world country well before we had a minimum wage. The only reason that things started going down the tubes in the late 1800s and early 1900s was because of Intellectual Property and the subsequent monopolization and trusts.

My question is, is life so bad in Mexico that they are all coming here?

Yes. Especially in the south of the country. Not only that, but a lot of them travel from countries farther south (Venezuela, Nicaragua, etc.) who have similarly awful (socialist) governments.

You are correct that these governments lean pretty far left and that they are awful.

But while they make lots of socialist noises, they really don't even attempt to redistribute wealth to the poor or make their lives better in any significant way.

These governments are run by and for the benefit of the wealthy elite. They mouth the words of socialism while they loot the treasury and stuff the money in their own pockets.

We are not doing these countries any favors by allowing them to use the USA as a safety valve to off-load their poor and discontent. Change will only come as a result of angry pressure from the people. We should keep those people and that anger where it can foment change that will make their lives better.

Change doesn't happen in rentier states. Their support from first-world oil dependent countries far outweighs any popular uprising (because those foreign governments just connive at military police brutality). It's not external corruption that's the problem (although it certainly is a huge problem), it's external corruption.

I for one am very sick of the cry babies, the bleeding hearts, who feel ,"oh so sorry "for the uncontrollable cancer at our border!!! Get a life before its too late,OK? Those people that you are crying about are felons. No its not like a jay-walking ticket. Felons go to prison where they belong. In case you aren't aware, our beautiful government is in the process of initiating yet another amnesty program to put these felons on a fast track to citizenship. And as an earlier poster mentioned, there are millions of hard working, law abiding people all over the world willing to jump through the hoops to get here legally. Why aren't you crying for them instead? You want them to wait even longer, behind the felons? Consider this if you will, after these felons get their citizenship they are eligible to vote,OK? Do you know that most natural born citizens, in prison(first time offenders) after parole, are not granted that privilege? How do feel about them? Those people crossing our border are not doing so as a result of being hungry. They come here to live middle class lives. Their energies need to be redirected to the task of having a revolution in there own country, just as we did. It is time to start deporting them now!!!!!!!!! Cheers
