STEROIDS -- If only you knew what you are putting into your body

Do you really know what steroids are? Well not many people do.

More athletes should take biology as a high school course.  Not only to better understand life processes and how life exist, but to really learn about your body – it’s almost like an advanced health class.

So here is my brief biology lesson for all of you bodybuilders, health freaks, and serious athletes:

Steroids.  Believe it or not they are classified as a lipid, even though they do not contain fatty acids.  This is because steroids are non-polar. This simply means they cannot be dissolved in water.  Think of it like this:  you microwave a stick of butter until it is completely liquid, now add a cup of water and watch what happens – it separates! Mix it up you say? – Well it still won’t dissolve.

Ok. So you put steroids into your body… you can’t flush it from your body no matter how much water you drink.  It’s not like eating salty chips and having your fingers swell. You can’t fix it by drinking a couple glasses of water.

“Why care?” some people think, “Well this means my toned body will never be dissolved.”

Wrong.  Steroids make cholesterol. Yea, that horrid thing doctors are always talking about. Too much can cause cardiovascular disease, severe heart problems, and clog your arteries – definitely something to be concerned about.

So why are so many pro athletes taking steroids? It must be o.k. if celebrities are doing it right? Wrong again. The answer is simple as to why they are doing it – stupidity.  Money is more important to some people than the quality and value of a healthy life.

Think wisely, you can progress as a good athlete with healthy eating habits, exercise, and a structured training routine. Then you can gain respect not only because you are the best, but because you did it on your own – without the help of steroids.

took steroids years ago and was VERY violent on them...luckily before me, but the guys he body built with went looking for fights and put many people in the hospital. They bounced at clubs and would hurt people pretty bad...That's the biggest problem with steroids...

Good point and thanks for that reminder.
Please look at my post "Bio lesson Part II - A More Shocking Look at Steroids," and tell me what you think.
