scholarship letter

Tell me what you think.

I am applying for the Lael Miller Scholarship because my entire life I have had the dream of being a teacher.  That is all that I have ever wanted to do.  After 6 years of hard work, that dream finally came true.  I spent 4 years at a community college and 2 years at a 4 year school.  I currently have a degree in  Elementary Education / Social Studies.  After all that hard work, I still have not reached the finish line.  After graduation and substituting in a school for many years, I have found that I want to each Special Education. To me there is nothing better then working with a child that was trouble learning.  To see the look on their face when they work so hard and finally figure out a difficult problem is priceless.  I want to help the children that need the most help.  Also with the new law of no child left behind, having a degree in Special Education would help me.  I would be able to take what I learned and apply it to the entire class not just the children with learning disabilities.  Being able to do that would help all of my students.

I would love to be ale to take two classes a semester so that I could reach my goal of becoming a Special Education teacher in 2 years.  In order to reach that goal I would need $2,940. So I am asking your organization and this scholarship fund if they could award me $2,940.  But any amount would be greatly appreciated. I would like to be able to reach this goal without having to go to my parents for the money.  They have support me in everything that I have wanted to do and I would like to show them that I can make it on my own.

I would use these fund solely for the tuition coats.  I would still have to pay out for an extra fees that the college adds on as well as books and supplies.    I know that I could ask for more but I want to ask for just the bare minimum so that you are able to help as many students as possible.  I would like to see as many student as possible reach their goals and full potential like myself.

This will enhance my future because it will allow me to do what I have always wanted to do.  I can not wait to be able to have my own class and have my own students and my own room.  I can not wait until the ay when a child thanks me for helping them and for teaching them.  I would love to have a child come back years later and thank me and tell me I was a role model.  Being able to go back college and earn my special education degree would help me become a role model for a young child.

Good letter. However, you just telling me what would you do with the money which is fine. But, I think you may want to tell them like who you are and what inspire you to be a teacher. My point is to make them know who you are not just why you want the money/scholarship fund.

There are several things wrong with this, and it is hard to believe you, a supposed teacher, actually wrote this.

I agree. Since this is a formal letter, I suggest that much proofreading - at least - has to be done. Second, it may be helpful to put at least one of your experiences with children (maybe those who have special needs) - how you became interested in working in that particular area and why you decided to pursue a higher degree.

Excellent advice.

I am in school to be a History teacher at the High school or Collegiate level - and yet I am trying to gain experience on an elementary level because that is what the universities here look for...

They want to see not only that you want to be a teacher - but that you can also communicate with every sort of student - whether they be a nerd as I was, or a "hoodlum" child that may not care about school - you have to show that you can communicate with either type...
