Prostitution why care?

What are your personal feelings on prostitution? Are you a patron of illegal prostitution in the U.S.? Are you passionately fighting against it? Where do you draw the line of prostitution? Do you believe that it is simply selling ones body or is it giving people in the strip clubs a show? Either way you are selling your body. Yes, I know the true definition, which is engaging in sexual intercourse for however another definition is using an ability that is considered unworthy for financial gain.

Just for the sake of comparison, I want to point out that while in the U.S. prostitution is illegal in Cuba it is not. I am unsure whether other countries have similar policies or not. However, I wonder why we bother trying to stop people from getting into prostitution. If it is the persons sole choice what can we really do because it is obviously going to go on whether it is illegal or not.

Are you worried about diseases well if their patrons do not care why do you? Are you taking the religious aspect on it trying to stop the sinning? Who are you, these people make a conscious choice of their own to ignore religion. For some people prostitution is their livelihood, their way of making money so why do we take that away from them. I am not condoning it, I am definitely not a patron to it, but I do not care enough to stop it. It is other people making their own decisions and no matter what they have to face the consequences whatever they may be.

Some may view it as wrong in all ways but think about this while the U.S. makes prostitution illegal we still allow stripers and allow porn. What is the difference between porn and prostitution though it is still people being paid to engage in sexual intercourse? Also, I would like to point out the porn stars and stripers alike still sell their bodies to make money. Yet we do not care about that just if two people who just met shack up in a cheap motel together.

I agree with you whole-heartedly. I think that prostitution is a victimless crime, and thus in my eyes, is not a crime at all. If two consenting adults want to engage in prostitution, I don't think it is any of the government's business. I also believe that if prostitution were made legal, it could become much safer, for both parties.

Seriously. Legalize it. Mandatory health screens. Easy access to condoms. Make it safe for the prostitutes! Do it like they do in the Red Light district. TAX IT to pay for HIV/AIDS research. By the way, some husbands do pick up back alley prostitutes sometimes. We should care if they get infected because of their significant others, if not our own.

Porn stars are tested regularly and everything is consensual. They are being paid to be videotaped having sex, not being paid for sex. Fine line, yes, but the line is still there.

Prostitution is immoral and inhumane. However, people have to get paid. You can go tell me they should goto school and get a better job but, why should someone go through all that work when they're content with being a prostitution making money?

"Immoral" is a very subjective term, as is "inhumane." Sex is just sex for some, others keep a different meaning. Rape, I think we can all agree, IS in fact immoral and inhumane. With the international sex trade, that type of prostitution is rape. Willingly selling one's sexual pleasures is just prostitution.

I'm sorry, but you all must not have seen the special on Cambodia. Children as young as five years of age are being pimped out against there will. Prostitution is illegal for a reason. Yes, nine times out of ten it is two consenting adults- that is here in the U.S.
I was horrified to watch as adult U.S. citizens traveled to Cambodia to buy young girls for sex. They have been put through hell and if you allow prostitution, what is to stop these monsters from selling young girls. Please, if you are going to write about something this big with such an opinion check out everything in your power about the topic. What do you say to that?

We're talking about US prostitution. There are young teenagers prostituting themselves here already, and not usually by force. If national prostitution was legal and mandated, like it is in the red light districts near Vegas, young girls and boys would not be for sale.

I have been a prostitute. I've seen some of the darker side of it. Like child prostitution (technically, I was a child prostitute).

It's not glamorous. Street prostitution is one of the worst things a person can do to themselves. Some escorts, strippers, etc, do enter the trade of their own free will, but not often. Most street prostitutes are coerced into it, and many of them are extremely young.

I wrote more about the subject here: http://www.progressiveu.org/221453-child-abuse-usa-homelessness-and-pros...

Thank you for putting it into words that I could not. Sometimes I can't explain my reasons, but you put it perfectly.

The biggest concern I have, is the prostitutes who are underage. We need a way to track them, and punish whoever is exploiting them. Perhaps legalizing prostitution would help there, but I believe it is wrong.
