THE PATRIOT ACT
I don't see why not, as long as there is a few simple and resonable rules to it:
- The people who listen to these phone calls should be a select group of people.
- The only thing they should be listening for is acts or plans or anything that is connected to terrorism.
- Anything that is said about breaking a law, or anything that DOES NOT pertain to terrorism directly, should not be recorded or used information. For example, if the people who are listening in hear something about drugs or murder or ANYTHING, even the smallest parking violation, it should not be used for ANYTHING. It should be forgotten and unrecorded, because using that information is a direct violation of American rights.
Since 9/11, America has changed, as expected. We all have to take precautions and steps to prevent anything like 9/11 from happening again.
So all of you complaining about the goverment listening in on our phone calls, GET OVER IT. I'd rather have some far off stranger listening to my most embarrasing moment or darkest secret that no one else would probably ever find out about, than another act of terrorism happening in our country. As long as those simple and reasonable rules are followed, I don't see the problem.
If our goverment were to violate them, and use the information heard for ANYTHING other than terrorism, then it's definantly a growing problem.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."- Ben Franklin
It's a violation of rights. We should have a reasonable expectation to privacy. No, I'm not doing anything wrong, but I don't want the government listening to my conversation.
Just like you don't want your mom snooping through your room, even when you know you're doing nothing wrong.
And besides, how do you know what the government uses our phone calls for?
