Scruples

Remember that game that came out in the 80's? Scruples? It consisted of 2 decks of cards. One deck had answers on it, Yes, No or Maybe. The other deck had questions of certain situations like "You find a wallet on the street with $200 in it and no identification. Do you try and find the wallet's owner?" What you do is ask someone that question, holding onto one of the answer cards that matches what you think they'll answer. If you guessed right, you get rid of the answer card. First person with three correct guesses wins. Great game right? My favorite card was the make up your own question card. My question was always this:

You meet someone of the opposite sex at a party. You are very attracted to them, as they are to you. Before the night is out, you find yourself in bed with this person (this question works better on guys than girls as you'll see, but I still like this question). In the middle of sex, the other person dies.

And you're not finished.

Do you finish?

Great question. You can tell a lot about someone by how they answer that. Usually the answer is NO, but occasionally you find the sick bastard in the group who answers YES or even, "Maybe. Depends on how close I am when I realize they're dead." Had that response three times actually.

The reason I bring this subject up is The Dead Zone. I've been watching all of the episodes from the beginning, and I really like the show. Anthony Michael Hall is no longer the skinny little geek from The Breakfast Club or Weird Science, he's finally come into his own (as he's about 40 now, took him long enough HA HA). I'm somewhere in season 2 or 3, I don't remember which, and the episode I just watched made me think of Scruples. Let me set it up for you and ask all of YOU a question (no simple Yes, No or Maybe will answer this).

You are Johnny Smith. Whenever you touch someone, you get a "psychic vision" of their past, present or future. An old friend of yours, now a multi-millionaire, you haven't seen in about 8 years, shows up at your house wanting you to touch him because he's dying. His heart is giving out on him at 37 years old. He is sick of the waiting and the uncertainty. He just wants to KNOW, not caring which way it goes, life or death. You give in and take his hand. The vision shows you your friend on the operating table as they bring in a heart from an accident victim, they put it in, sew him up and he's fine. No rejection by the body of the heart.

Later, you talk to his sister, who had a huge crush on you in high school. You realize you have similar feelings. As you are all celebrating the success of your friend getting a new heart, you get a vision of his sister. She is hit by a drunk driver and dies. The heart for the brother's transplant comes from her, far less risk of rejection from a family member.

So here is the question.

Do you let the sister die to save the brother? Or do you warn the sister whom you could live the rest of your life with and sacrifice the brother?

I don't know what I'd do. The way the storyline ran in the show, it was the only way it could happen (I'm not going to tell you if you don't know, at least not on here, send me a message and I'll tell you what happens). Please respond. This is something a little more than "This is what I did at work today" post, and I'm interested to know what some of you think.
