The major battle throughout our country, Science versus God, is fighting for the right for advertisement in local schools . Really, only America can have a problem like this. A diversified country believing in multiple ideologies can not conform to one patterned way of thinking. All of India follows the Hindu religion therefore they do not need to fight over reincarnation. If children in schools are taught only one theory on the creation of our existence then, of course, they will take that theory as correct. Both evolution and creationism should be legal to be taught in public education because, in truth, they are both theories. No one can prove or disprove the other because no one alive really knows. The facts for both arguments should be presented allowing the student to decide for themself. The school board of Kansas shouldn't be able to choose what influences the students in that state as students should have the right to receive all information corresponding to these subjects. Not only will this make individuals more aware but also understanding as they have learned the throught process of both theories. Agreement is not necessary but education is.

I hate the whole intelligent design/creationism/evolutionism battle because the only thing it is doing is giving American people the impression that the gov't/education system is actually TRYING to give them a broad perspective of how life was possibly created.

You may want to look at next weeks issue of the journal Nature as there's an article specifically about the creationism debate going on in Europe (especially Poland and Russia) and is entitled "Anti-evolutionists raise their profile in Europe." In any case, I've been over this topic many times in my posts, and if creationism had anything scientific to offer in science class I'd welcome it, but it does not. Intelligent design and Biblical creationism are philosophical viewpoints that are trying to bypass the scientific peer-review process and get into school systems to stem the tide of immorality, or what they perceive to be immorality. I would have no problem if ID or creationism were taught in a philosophy and theology class, but there's no science to it. Evolution does not exclude religion, and it is the best natural explanation we have. Further, as Gould pointed out, it is both fact and theory- we know life evolves, but we still are working out how it does it (the "theories" of evolution). Remember, Charles Darwin wasn't the first to propose evolution (it goes all the way back to the Greeks), but instead he gave us the first accurate mechanism for it to occur (natural selection). In any event, everyone is entitled to their own religion, but I won't accept theology being wrapped up as science in order to "save the souls" of students- that isn't what science is about.

There are scientific facts to disprove or prove both theories. Students deserve to recieve an unbiased education on both.
What are the scientific facts to prove creationism? What are the scientific facts to disprove evolution by natural selection? I've been studying this debate for a long time, and despite reading article after article by creationists they have not come up with any proof. They may be looking at the same evidence as other scientists, but their worldview heavily biases their opinion. Scientists are not always as objective as would be hoped, but the process of peer-review, checking, testing, etc. lets old and wrong ideas get thrown out if proven false. If nothing else, there is at least the potential to correct mistakes and change ideas. Creationism, however, is pinned by a particular interpretation of the Bible and if something doesn't fit, they'll try to shoehorn it in to their prior assumption because they can't change it. If you believe the Bible is infallible and you have the 100% correct interpretation of it, then that restrictions the whole of science. It is purely a philosophical standpoint, orchestrated to do away with materialism and make people feel valued because they've been designed. Every mission statement from an ID or creationism group has stated that their main purpose is to do away with materialism or to save people, not to unflinchingly report the truth about science.
In any case, I am not going to take you at your word that there are scientific facts that deny evolution or support creationism. Evolution is science (NOT a religion) and creationism is a religion (NOT science), but I would like to see what examples you can present here.

Carbon dating isn't accurate as the atmosphere has never been in equilibrium so dating dinosaur bones at millions of years old isn't accurate. The complexity of human bodies is so precise that it isn't possible to say that we evolved from single cell of bacteria. The big bang theory is impossible as a cell cannot be created from a hot mess of lava. Creationism does base its knowledge on the bible which is biased. BOTH creationism and evolution are theories. No one can completely prove the truth for either. It is all opinion.
