I guess I have been living in my own little world far too long. I know that racism exist, I am well aware that some people can not see past their own "skin color", but to have school systems choosing who will go to a certain school because of their race is so, so, 1950's. That is what I thought, but evidently I was wrong. I've read two articles today to show how this is still alive and well in today's society. One case being in Kentucky the other in Washington.
Today in Political Science class we were discussing "civil rights" and "civil liberties", plus how most of the time when you initially think of civil rights you think of Brown v Board of Education and so on. My professor pointed out how these issues are still a HOT topic of today and that is why we as young Americans need to focus these issues. He passed out two articles that he got from a local paper here in WV. These articles opened my eyes to how we are not living in 1950;however, racial issues are more important than I thought they were. I guess when you're color blind by choice you just think others are color blind as well?

I've never been discriminated against, but I'm sure if I were, I'd be a more productive person in trying to make a difference when it comes to racism. When will it stop- or will it ever?

Nobody know whats right and whats wrong anymore
Racism is not the only form of discrimination. If it stops, there will be another problem.
This is true, however, eliminating racism is one small step in eliminating the other problems as well. Eliminating racism will help others to see that discrimination is not acceptable.

Hey- I found another site to read about this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16036037/
To comment to everPro-- I know it's not the only form of discrimination, but if we can solve this, we can take care of the other problems that comes along with discrimination (women, gays, being from the south, being from the north, having blonde hair, having grey hair, being a male cheerleader...you get my point). We have to take one step at a time, will we "Save the World" of course not, but I would like to think that we tried?

I must say that I completely and totally agree with this blog...I am a caucasian female, and of all races, I have most definitely been treated the best....But it disgusts me to see that even Decades after Jim Crowe laws were abolished, after racism was supposed to become practiacally extinct within American society, and after all the horrible things that have happened to people because of what race they are, that though it might be illegal, looking down on people due to race is still a prevalent issue in today's society...I know this is not the best guide to reference, but have you watched the new comedy "Borat"? It is a comedy, but there is a huge chunk of the movie where all Ali G (Borat) does is expose the ignorance and racism that still present in many southern states....The sad part is, that part of the movies uses no actors....THe truth is that our country is run by old, white men who still find it acceptable to judge people by race....But with personal effort, I make sure every day of my life not to even subject people to a stereotype when it comes to the issue of race....and as a group, our generation can progress forward to make leaps and bounds concerning this issue...thank you :)

No matter how many struggles us minorities go through, we are still looked down upon, stereotyped, and put off to the side...I am still looking forward to the day when racism will disappear...I'm sick of hearing joes about minorities, when in fact these can hurt people...
Me too! I am sick of hearing casino and peace pipe jokes. People just aren't educated. I even had someone ask me if I lived in a teepee. No, I live in an apartment, lady.
