What is patriotism? Is it a picture? Is it a person? Is it a statue? Is it a name? Is it a place? Is it a symbol? Is patriotism one thing, or is it all of these things? Is it none of these at all?

What do you think? I want to know what patriotism means to you.

Does true patriotism exist? If a person is "patriotic" do they support everything America stands for? If so, what exactly does America stand for? Is it simply freedom? If America stands for "freedom," then why are we so concerned about things such as sexual orientation?

I would say that patriotism is keeping in mind the concerns of the founding fathers of our country: unjust rulers, unfair government, corruption and incompetence among rulers, and the rights of citizens to be free and liberated.

Patriotism is not a blind faith in the government or a desire to interfere with the lives of others. It's amazing how it has been turned into a political tool to squelch dissent recently, especially since the nation was founded on dissenting beliefs.
