With almost 300,000 in exile, and some 200,000 of them facing what may be the permanent loss of their homes, the social structure of New Orleans is devastated.  New Orleans will need government aid, personal contributions, prayers and hard work for many years to come.  Will New Orleans, a city that gets a great deal of its income from tourism, truly recover?

Of course it will. As you said, it does take many things, but I am sure in a few years, New Orleans will be fully recovered, or maybe in a better shape, with new buildings and stuff. We shouldn't be so pessimistic about it.

I disagree, I don't think it will ever be the same, or for that matter should be the same. Why rebuild? Why waste that kind of money, their will be more and larger hurricanes in the future. Why put people at risk like that. I always here that the culture will be lost, bull crap move the city, relocate, accept the loses and move on. Blues won't die with the hurricane people will. Lets save them and their future!

In most areas that are prone to hurricanes - the houses are built with a much stronger material... this should be the aim of the builders in New Orleans. People have to live there - they're not going to just uproot and move - not an option for most!

I don't think it will ever be the same, especially since most of America has forgotten about it (and the tsunami), and very little aid is continuing to be given to these families and businesses that were devastated.

Maybe on the outside it will. But the people will not recover mentaly

True - after that huge an amount of destruction, it would have a great amount of mental distress on the effected parties!

i think it will

Perhaps it will, in many instances, but it's going to be hard and take quite a long time to get close to where it used to be!

the government have to repair the lave and make it safe for the people to go back to their homes

Yes, it will. but not for a long time!
