if you're a people person, like me, i have the best job for you then! (and for me, lol).....
Being a nurse is the greatest job in the world if you are good with people. i'm a CNA (well, i'll be on the state registry after this weekend hopefully)......CNA= Certified Nursing Assistant......it's great, it's in high demand so you'll be able to find a job no matter where you live, and as long as you're serious in your training it's pretty easy. you really have to pay attention and take notes during the classes though, and during the labs, so that you actually know what you're doing when you get to doing the clinicals.....clinicals are the best part of the class if you ask me. you actually get to do the things you've been practicing in class and in labs and you get great hands-on experience. however, some patients may not want students performing things on them, and they may not even want you watching a procedure.
for those of you who are thinking about becoming a nurse: go for it! it's great! an amazing learning experience and it gives you skills you can take with you anywhere you wanna go. for example: provided that alex and i are still together when he graduates in a few years (shortly after i finish my LPN/LVN program), he and i will be living together most likely and depending on where he decides to go to school, we'll be moving. i will still be able to find a job no matter where we go because nurses are in high demand nation-wide. so it's a great field to go into and it pays really well. if i pass tomorrow, i already have a job lined up that pays over $10/hour and i get a pay raise after only 3 months. plus, being in such high demand, employers tend to try to work around your schedule so that they can have you as an employee. where i'm going to working at is way understaffed as well so they really want me to work there and start as soon as possible.
hospitals and nursing homes are the two places i did my clinicals at, and i'll be working at the nursing home we did our first set of clinicals at. I learned a lot from the nursing staff there, especially Steve, Janet, and Ryen. Steve is actually going to the same college i will be, but he's going to get his RN and I'm getting my LPN/LVN..... RN=Registered Nurse( they can do a lot more than a CNA), LPN/LVN=Liscensed Oracical/Vocational Nurse (they're the step between CNA and RN)......
as for pay......one of my high school teachers, his duaghter is a nurse and she made $63,000 last year alone.....hospitals are a better place to get experience, but when you're just starting out, i personally think it's better to start off at a nursing home and work your way up. you'll get better at important skills and you have the time to talk to some of the nursing staff at a nursing home while the residents are doing activities or other things. it helps clear things up that didn't make sense to you at first and they'll also help you do things until you get the hang of it. Hospitals, it's a little harder to do that, but sometimes you have a little more down time.....but things are also a lot more fast-paced depending on what department you want to work in. i would suggest not going for the emergency room position if you've just finished with CNA class.....you wouldn't be prepared for it yet.

There is a big shortage of nurses around the US, but the salaries differ per state. California in general has the highest rates for nurses. It is best to get an RN to get most of the benefits.
Your heading and title, though, are a bit misleading. Nursing is not for all people persons, because even people persons have different interests. For instance, nursing does not have much science. I am not against nursing, because my mother is an RN. But I do not like the common notion among our family friends that nursing is the only worthwhile career, because there are also other high-paying jobs which may satisfy personal interests. Also, I think that it is better to pursue a career not mainly for the money, but also for personal satisfaction and utilization of talents.
hon, i'm not only going for it for the money. it's what i want to do...i never wsaid anything about it should be the only job a people person should look at either. it's merely a suggestion, but if it will make you feel better, maybe i could change the title, just for you? (no offense, but that's a bit of sarcasm there. i don't care what most people think about my titles or the content for that matter. if you don't like too bad, get over it, it's just a title. if people didn't like the title, then they don't have to read the rest of the blog about it).....
Sorry if I offended you... Indeed, the title was catchy. I am happy that you have found a career which will make you happy. I did not mean that you are going for the money; I was just saying that I have friends who are going into nursing for the money and/or their parents forced them to, for the money.
