On Thurday February 14th 2007, Steven Kazmierczak opened fire on a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University. The gunman killed 5 people, wounded others and then took his own life. Kazmierczak attended NUI, while studing Mental Health Issues. He also took a job as a correction officer, but quit suddenly or never came back to work. He worked at the job from September 24, 2007 to October 9, 2007.
He also had a short military carrer. In 2001, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was discharged in Febraury 2002. He was discharged because of incorrect information on his application. The Army can not release the exact information due the privacy act.
His teachers said that he was always polite, well mannered and commited to his school work. They never noticed anything wrong about him. The police cheif on campus said that Kazmierczak had an erratic episode the week before the shooting. He stated that Kazmierczak was not taking his medication.
My theory on this..... All this could have been avoided had someone kept tabs on his medication and made him take it. People that are depressed/ or have other mental disorders should be watch. It is extremely bad to stop taking medications. If you do not ween yourself off of them it can cause you to have episodes like what happened in this case.
