I'm in a sorority, and I live in the house, and our cook has been having his friends come in and talk to us over lunches. Usually nothing big, but this week I was impressed.
The woman who came in this week has been spending the last few years living in Iraq as much as possible. She is a member of the Christian Peacemaker Teams. www.cpt.org. I don't know what your thoughts on religion are, especially religion mixed with politics, but I think just about anyone will respect these people.
She lived in one of the neighborhoods in Iraq with the Iraqi people; not in the green zone. And what she did was help people. When someone's family was missing, she would help them search the prisons to find them. Or go to the morgue to provide support while identifying a body. And she isn't doing it to be political; she's doing it because it's what she is supposed to do.
Besides having a personal description of what has been going on in Iraq with contractors, US soldiers, and Iraqis, it was amazing to have a woman to talk to who did her work simply because it needed to be done; it was right; and she felt called to do it.
