Lately I've been trying out being a vegetarian. I tried it before, but it was too difficult in high school because we didn't have very many options at my house that were meat-free. Now that I'm at college it's actually really easy. My best friend is a vegetarian, and she wants to be a chef someday. She's always reading books on nutrition. It’s actually a lot healthier for you to be a vegetarian if you pay attention to what you put into your mouth. I eat Smart Start cereal every morning so I can get the nutrients I need, like iron. Milk has a lot of protein in it so I have a lot of milk products throughout the day. Beyond those two things I try to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and eat lots of grains, like rice and whole wheat bagels. I love it! I decided to try to be a vegetarian because of a display on the squad that I say. Some students had inflated a bunch of black bags with air and tied them together with a sign that explained that it was a representation of how much CO2 each person consumes a day, not including driving or breathing. It said a normal person uses 12 tons of CO2 a day, and 5 of that accounts for the animals raised to be slaughtered. I don’t have a problem with killing animals, though I know there are a lot of problems with commercial farming, but it’s just so easy for me to give up that extra 5 tons of CO2 and decrease my carbon footprint just a little bit. Just something to think about.
My insides are green!
