Has anyone actually recently read some of the lyrics of the top whatever here? It's not like I don't like these artists or that I don't like the song as a piece of music for entertainment, but some of the lyrics are seriously offensive. Let me beat my girlfriend until she is on the ground but everything will be ok if I just say I love her. Yes that is offensive. Abuse is not really top of the make a great song list. Or what about cheating? Did anyone else notice the recent increase in the songs about someone cheating on someone else? Music is taking a downward spiral. And yes it has been going on for years but when is enough enough? Of course those explict songs are the favorite of the youth. Why not, with MTV and other pop culture references to it every day, how can someone not get drawn into it? Sure censorship is bad, but where does someone realize something is in bad taste and decide to self censor. Yes yes throw freedom of speech in and everything but when is a judgement call in order, it may be getting too late to use them.

I agree that song lyrics are getting worse and worse. Also, I've noticed that lyrics aren't that important for listeners and song quality any more. People probably don't listen to lyrics as intently as they used to. The days of "show me a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T" are over.
I am also offended by some of the lyrics in songs. They have become increaslingly sexualized, particularly towards women, and cheating is a common sentiment.
Allison Parker
and people shouldn't support those artists by buying their cds.
as a person who enjoys the hip-hop culture and well, rap music. I have to agree with you on the stupidness of what's allowed to be made as the best music nowadays, it makes what was made in the past look as if there was never really any good music.
I actually have family trying to make it in rap music, if they do as the group that they are, and are able to hit the whole united states, and not just the west side, then I see a huge change in music, because they'll remind a person of why people like biggie & pac liked to put their music out. most of the kids nowadays though, just wanna make some money off of their retarded, im an ass hole, type of raps.
you are right. Some lyrics are offensive..
I believe that parents should listen to music that their children are listening because letting their children listen to lyrics about abuse isn't setting a good example because by allowing a son to listen to those lyrics makes the son think that beating his girlfriend isn't a wrong thing to do, even though it is.
"It's crazy how you can have your life arranged
and the day you get engaged you notice she's acting strange
like everything's changed and suddenly you don't trust her just the same
then you find out some other man's been fuckin' out her brains
That's when your heart starts to feel the pain
so much that you can feel it in your veins and you can't forget her name
That's when you Literally go insane"
That song is about cheating, but unlike others it's insightful and holds meaning. It's true, some music artists should just not be making money these days. I just avoid them and find what's worth listening to.
