Today the pope gave a mass in Washington DC and his message was riddled with a message of hope. The message from one of the top religious leaders can be applied to anyone and everyone int he world today. In order for it to take effect we have to actually THINK about this broad concept. What is hope? How does it affect me? How can it help make anything better?
I do not intend to define hope because hope differs from one person to another and it centers around your personal belief system. Instead I want to discuss this topic. Not ruling out one view or another, picking a right or wrong, but showing how it can apply to each of us. Hope is one of the few concepts that can tie almost every religion, every person, and every culture together. Hope is a positive word, an idea that brings the best from someone's belief system. We hope for a better day, we hope for a perfect job, or we hope for world peace. Few hope for war or destruction. Few hope to loose all their money or never prosper in life. That is why hope can be a powerful tool that ties life together. We can hope for a better country no matter our religion.
While the pope is in the United States he is going to have a discussion with other religious leaders and deliver a message to the United Nations. One can only hope that his message carries into these other meeting with people who have great influence over the world.
