Creation Science vs. Evolution

Like it or not, I come from a very religious background. Bible-toting cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles pepper birthday parties and family reunions. Through this however, I have become quite the atheist. It started when my grandfather died and continued expotentially through my bisexuality and critical readings of the Bible itself (yes, I still read the Bible).

Now, I enrolled in a Biological Anthropology class this semester, and one of the first things addressed was whether Cretion Science, for lack of a better word, counted. Now, personal bias aside, how can Creation Science be an actualy science? In fact, what is science at all? As a true college student, I punched my question into Google and came up with: "Science is the observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theorectical explanation of a phenomena."

Now, does a person observe the sponanteous generation of a universe? Can a person identify the Lord God if he's walking down the street? Descripton I can accept because those who are religious have their Holy book which describes many things such has how Man came to be, how one should live etc etc. However, how can we put religion to the test? It is something based solely on an individual's faith, something that cannot be accurately measured. Theortical explanation, on the other hand, is covered.

Fulfilling only two of the five categories which science supposedly is, how can one say the religion is indeed a science?

Now I'm not going to refute religion on a whole, nor am I waving a banner screaming "Evolution or Bust!" But I believe it is inaccurate to label religion as a science on par with evolutionary theories.

Religion is a belief system seperate from experimental sciences. Believe what you want, I am not going to judge what you whisper before you go to sleep, or how you believe you got here.

Yes, I believe in evolution. I think there is too much evidence to toss it aside.
Besides, doesn't the Bible say something about how a day for us could be a million years for God and vice versa?
If both parties were open, I think religion and science could live together is perfect harmony...
..Like ebony and ivory...

:dances: I'm all for living in harmony, but that would make life a little dull. I love a good bicker.

Haha I don't think it matters how much one roots for harmony, no two people are ever going to agree on everything.
And somebody is always going to have a temper

As wonderful an idea "harmony" is, it is, unfortunately unrealistic. Sometimes it seems as though there are those who thrive on disunity and chaos... mostly those who always "have a temper". I do not think that we should agree on absolutely everything, or else we would have nothing to discuss and debate (and I love debates!). I just think it would be easier if some people were a bit more accepting of differing viewpoints.

...On an end note, I think it is rather foolish to call creationism a science...not that I bashing anyone's beliefs here :)

I think my point was a little misunderstood.
My comment about ebony and ivory was meant to be ironic. Meaning that I have no thoughts, hopes, or wishes that the whole world will be harmonious. In fact, I know for a fact it will never happen. I was just throwing out there that perhaps the initial argument which sets Creation Science and Evolution was superfluous
