My algebra class drives me insane. Its the only regular class out of the day and six out of 25 kids turn in their homework and are passing. Okay I don't care if you fail. But when the grade sheet is passed around and I see 'teachers pet' with an arrow pointing to my grade, that makes me mad. Just because these kids don't take notes, play paper football during class, real football when notes are over, and - NO I am NOT joking - roll down the hallways when they get a pass, DEFINITELY doesn't mean that they're better than me. Oh, so I take notes, care about my future, and ask questions so I can actually pass the weekly test...that suddenly makes me a teachers pet? Okay...whatever...we'll see who's working at McDonald's the rest of their life. Certainly not the teachers pet. So what do I write back next to the antagonizer's name? '30 years from now: Welcome to McDonalds, can I take your order?' No, not the most mature thing in the world to do but it got to him, and he apologized after class, gave me a Sierra Mist (my favorite drink), and asked me for some study tips. Maybe being a teachers pet isn't so bad. Free soda! ;D Only kidding. But apparently he took my advice because he has a C+ in the class now.

Hey, you got a free soda out of the deal. Can't be all bad!
I personally such at Math related things. Especially Algebra and Statistics. This is simply because they are not subject I'm good in. It's not that I don't pay attention or don't do my homework. I try. That's why people who slack off and complain about grades get on my nerves. They annoy me almost as much as the ones who slack off and get BETTER grades. Ugh.
But I am really good in English and Economics. They are my good subjects. English because I love writing and reading. Economics because it is ludicrously easy. Being singled out and treated differently because of good grades is not a good feeling. In Economics we were playing a review game and nobody on the other team wanted to go against me. I guess it should be flattering, but it didn't feel that way.
I've been called a teacher's pet many a time. I guess part of it lies in that I have an obsession with having a 100% in every single class.
I think most of my fellow students are just jealous. Your motivation will pay off in the long run!
I have to admit I was more of a rebel, oh those many years ago when I was a student. I never took homework home (oops wrong, I did once after skipping school for 3 weeks straight), I read non-school books in class, etc. And not to brag, because if I had actually studied, I might have done lots better and gotten out of there sooner. I turned in my homework before the end of class. They usually gave us 15 - 20 minutes to work on it, or I did it in the one study hall I had. I was a 3.8 student in school without trying, And I was always called a Pet (maybe because I had a fuzzy head). Anyway being a teachers pet is nothing to be ashamed of or to get upset over. If a student cannot be praised for doing good work, then why should they do it. Would the students rather the teacher point out the ones not doing the work and assign them pet names?
I'm in the same boat as you. I get good grades in my classes and I get ridiculed for it sometimes. I'm sorry, I don't know about you but I want to succeed in life. Not to mention my education is being PAID FOR by my parents. So in the long run, don't worry, you'll be at the finish line laughing at the people who haven't even started the race. :) Just keep doing what you're doing and eventually you'll set a trend. If not, well...you know who's going to get the bigger slice of cake.
