I heard this morning from a public radio announcement on a college radio station that "no drastic measures" need to be taken to decrease our fossil fuel use, energy use etc. That there while is opinion. Here I offer mine.
These non-drastic measures need to start with the government. The government should begin to make more energy efficient buildings. I know it sounds crazy, but what if large city halls, capital buildings and other large government buildings start running alternative energy? We have army and navy complexes that should be running off solar power. I know people say solar power is expensive and wont great a big dent in the power grid. A similar issue is with electric cars and hydrogen fuel cars. Yes they are expensive.
You might also ask when speaking of electric cars and hydrogen cars is "what about the oil industry?"
This is where the government needs to step in. If we stressed the need for people to create electric cars at affordable prices and make hydrogen cars more affordable. Then people will begin to realize that not only is petroleum not what we need but that electric cars are the wave of the future along with hydrogen. This will create a surge of peopel to study this technology and create more jobs in the industry. If there is a demand for these cars there will be a demand for the jobs which will come with a nice salary!
Which ever way we take to get away from fossil fuels, the government needs to take the first step. We are people that follow by example. The government can't just change daylight savings around on us and eliminate incandescent bulbs which is a whole other issue. These things arent going to cut down on energy much, The government needs to make a move and show us how we have to live not tell us how to live and then not give us an example.
