Defined By Your Clique

Belonging to a clique/peer group is very important to most adolescents. It provides closeness with peers, freedom from parents and authority, it also helps teens define them selves – helps them establish an identity.

In order to establish an identity the clique raises self-confidence of its members by complementing them and supporting them. Teens often fall to conformity of their clique because of their strong desire to be accepted in the group. They often times all “develop” the same taste in music, fashion, speech, and even hold the same values.

Despite the fact that peer groups/cliques encourage conformity they aren’t always the main influence in a teen’s life. Parents and peer groups both shape the teen’s life and values – even if they are conflicting. Peers often define the fashion and music taste while parents establish values. (This is not always the case)

Cliques help teens define who they are. Parents still play an important role in a teen’s life even if it appears that they do not. Cliques help teens fit in and feel accepted. What does your clique say about you? How dose it define you as a person?

I would say that i don't have a clique.but that would be a lie even when you think that you are conforming to everyone else you are essentially changing or growing on a group more tha you thought perhaps.i know that in high school i always hung out with the same kids just like i do in college im on cheerleading and i am nine times out of ten probably with my roommate who is a cheerleader or another cheerleader just because we are with each other so much that we have such a strong friendship .
