Why all the blogs about racism?

I've seen quite a few posts about racism in the past couple of days.  The only one that I can really remember reading only said things that are ridiculously obvious to me and should be to everyone else.  The blogger wrote that "Racism is staring YOU straight in the face!"  or something like that ... well, DUH.  You don't need to tell me that.  I live in East Texas, and down here you are constantly reminded that some people don't care for people of another color.  I'm not just talking about whites, I'm talking about blacks too.  Listen to some white people talk (the majority of them are probably older than 30)  and listen to groups of black people talk among themselves.  Black people have told me that they hated white people or done something that showed they didn't like whites right in front of me.  Anyway, my point is that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that racism is a huge part of our society.  Everybody thinks that our current President is so racist because "he didn't send help to New Orleans fast enough."  I don't really understand how you could be the president of a country so diverse and be racist at the same time.  I find that accusation to be completely ridiculous.  Well, this post isn't about that topic, but I think that people need to stop accusing other people of being racist and need to start trying to figure out what they can do to make their lives and the people's lives around them better.  Yes, racism exists (duh, if you haven't figured that out then where is your brain?), but you don't have to be a part of it.

And it's not something that can be totally eradicated away unless people open up their minds, learn the history, yes, but that doesn't mean you have to think the same way your ancestors did about other races

since the movie Crash and of all the immigration debates, people have been more conscience to rasicm. I live in south Texas, and so I understand what you are saying. in my opinion, everyone can be racist at times.

Yeah, and I'm sure it is worse in states like Texas who were part of the confederacy (in fact, for all we know, Texas might be the worst) and everything. I do think that everyone can be racist at times as well. (by the way, I liked your post on this issue)

You are right, racism exists. That's why we have to be more educated in this matter, and to try to educate our children (and the generations to come), in order to hope for a society with no racism at all. I am sure that we won't see that society, but somebody will, and for that we have to continue the fight that others started.
