From a blog about weight loss:
Unfortunately, smoking is one of those means that some of those women use to lose weight. Why smoking? It is because smoking is one of the fastest ways out there to lose weight. Smoking accelerates weight loss because it kills the appetite and quickly burns the extra weight off the body’s system.
Being a young, vibrant teenager, I began to ponder this thought.
"Smoking is one of the fastest ways out there to lose weight." Appealing.
"Smoking accelerates weight loss..." More appealing.
Later in the article, I found that smoking increases cancer, and not necessarily just in the lungs! The cervix, larynx, esophagus, kidneys, pancreas, and even breasts are all at a higher risk of getting cancer in people who smoke than who don't spoke. (All credit back to that blog, of course.) In addition, smoking increases a woman's chance of osteoporosis and can cause premature birth and congenital defects in babies.
All that for a little weight?
Before I had even thought about writing this blog, I spent my lunch hour today with a good friend of mine. She smokes, and I couldn't help but say, "I have a strange question. Do cigarettes help you lose weight?" Of course, she wasn't sure, claiming she had always heard that it did, but she was skinny enough that it didn't matter.
I've been overweight (always fluxuating from just a little until nearly obese) most of my life. I have dieted, I have exercised, and I have found that nothing has ever worked in the past. I did something that may have been rather stupid on my part. She handed me the cigarette and I took a long, smooth drag...
And ended up choking it all back out.
Cancer runs in my family, but I wasn't thinking about it at the time. I just wanted to know what it was like -- just the one time -- to decide whether or not smoking was actually worth it. Better yet, what's this teenage fascination with cigarettes? I see more people everyday, most my age, deciding to take up the nasty habit. They forget about the long-term effects of addiction and the possibility of cancer. They forget everything bad their parents ever told them (or didn't tell them) about smoking cigarettes. Nobody ever seems to think about these things...
Maybe I'll pull out the treadmill again.

yes that was rather stupid for you. The reason some people smoke to lose weight is because they are more worried about the now not the cancer later.
Ah, thank you for your incredible observation! If you hadn't reminded me what a stupid move it was, I may have forgotten. :]
The point of the blog was to reflect on what I did and why it's better to take the long road rather than the easy way out.
another reason teens smoke is to look badass which they don't they don't realize what they're doing to their appearance later on in life. no one looks good when they have lung cancer or with their throat cut open.
