Foster & Adopted Children/Families

Tagged:

Another sad, but true article http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11280990/

What I don't understand is how it got this far with these kids. I mean, they are adopted and the family also had a foster child. That means that Social Services had to be in and out of that house a countless number of times checking up on the foster child. Did they not notice the treatment of the adopted boys? Did they not see how malnourshed and skinny these kids were? Or, did they just ignore it?

I saw something on Maury one day about this family who really wanted to become adoptive parents. Well, I don't remember where they are from, but for them to eligible to adopt, they had to be a foster family first.....I guess to show that they are capable of being parents. So, they had this foster child...a girl....and they took care of her, raised her, etc. Well, the foster child ended up pregnant when she was 16. Turns out the foster DAD was the one who got her pregnant! (*ugh* sick I know). Anyhow, so the foster child was taken from the home and placed in an apartment where the state pays for everything (since she was in custody of the state, they now have to support her and her child). Anyhow, so the foster father left his wife for this girl.....now the state is supporting both of them! Also, the foster mother is now no longer able to be a foster parent or adopt any child because of what her husband did. How upsetting is that? I think that's a little bit of BS....it wasn't her fault.....she had no clue about it. But, they say since it happened in her house she is held responsible...but hey how many people cheat on their significant others in their own houses??? You can't control everything!!!

Anyhow, that's just my little ranting for today!!!!   I got a little off from the article...but it was pretty relevant....all about foster/adopted children!!

I've always thought adoption was the greatest thing in the world, but this article brings out the worst in people. Lord knows she probably adopted for the tax breaks and such, and it is so wrong to treat the children as she did.

I agree. Adoption is so wonderful. I want to adopt some day...but it's soo expensive. Yea, she probably did do it for ALL the wrong reasons.

This all leades m to ask "Don't they do background checks on adopting families to ensure this doesn't happen."
