new york and gay marriages

finally new york city a place where thousands of gay people life is possibality going to allow gay marriages.  i think this is wonderful. i feel they should be given teh same rights as others.  this would be a big step in teh right direction.  mabe if new york passes this law other states in this area will follow.  that woudl be great for the gay population.  just as long as us none gay people are not forced to give up anything.

(05.29.06 - AP) — The state's highest court begins hearing a case this week to decide whether New York City can issue licenses for same-sex marriages.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says that — if the court rules that the city can issue the licenses — the Big Apple will begin performing gay marriages.

If the court rules the other way, Bloomberg says he and City Council Speaker Christine Queen will work with the state Legislature to make gay marriage legal.

The mayor spoke about the issue Sunday in his weekly radio address. Pride Month begins June 1.

Bloomberg has been criticized for appealing a lower court ruling that said same-sex marriages were legal.

City attorneys have said that Bloomberg wants a definitive statewide ruling to avoid the confusion of a marriage being legal in New York City but not in Buffalo.

Let them do what they want as long as they promise to be responsible for any consequences of very acts and as long as their acts do not put burden on the society at large.
