Fears

Let's face it people, we all have fears, no matter how petty or how serious. For example, I am terrified of clowns and puppets, won't go near them if I can help it. Also, because I have extreme paranoia at times, I have a fear of doing certain things, sometimes I can even be afraid of stairs. So how do we deal with our fears? Some think if they just don't think about it, it won't happen to them, or they won't get hurt or frightened about it. Not so. Has anyone ever heard the saying 'face your fears'? I'm pretty sure everyone has, but they continue to think that if they just ignore their fears it will go away.

Working in a gift shop that has clowns and puppets in it is good therapy for someone who is afraid of them. Of course they can't hurt you or me, and they are just decaration, but it's their creepiness that makes them scary. Since it's there everyday, you learn to get over it. Walking up and down the stairs every two seconds is a good way to get over a fear of stairs. If you are afraid to ride a bike, my advice to you, ride your bike, if you absolutely need to, have someone there with you that can help you balance at first, or can call 911 if you crash. The fact is, we can't be afraid to do something just because we fear it.

So why can't people face their fears? Perhaps it's psychological, or maybe we're just convinced that nothing will help us get over it. Truth is we probably just don't want to try. Here's something to think about though. Can we really afford to be afraid of petty things such as stairs or walking home, bikes or clowns? The answer is no, not in this world we are living in. If you are afraid of stairs, well you are screwed unless there's an elevator, but then again, you could think of that as one step that does the stepping for you. Can we afford to be afraid of walking or riding a bike home? No, not with gas prices as they are now. Clowns, really what is there to fear about them? (I keep asking myself, and it really is that they are creepy.)

Oh, and for the people who fear mirrors, why do you fear them? Is it you fear that the mirror will reflect back a monster, or do you think it's a portal to hell or something? My friend fears mirrors, and I can't understand why. Besides the fact that you could get cut if you run your hand across it and it's broken already, but I don't think anyone would do that. Then again, with the people I know, I wouldn't bet against it.

The most important thing here is to deal with your fears. It may take a while, but get over them. In this world we don't have the time to be rendered crippled because of our fears. Wouldn't you rather spend that time with family, or acting like a kid again? I know I sure would, and that's why I'm asking everyone else, what would you prefer? Fears or a life?
