Facebook - An Important Networking Tool for Organizers

Facebook has proven to be an effective tool that people can use for networking and organizing. In recent months there have been large protests organized around the world through the use of Facebook and it's Groups feature.

While many continue to discuss the negative impact that Facebook can have, there are certainly a number of positive things that can result from social networking sites. Infusing a conscious activism through these sites can change the landscape. If people seek change they must create it.

One of the appealing features to Facebook is the ability for people to maintain their privacy or to be as open with their information as they would like. They have options. And, many people utilize them wisely and in a manner that maximizes benefits.

I have personally used Facebook to organize around a number of social justice issues in Michigan. The network has helped me generate support, increase awareness, and educate others in a number of ways I would be unable to.

The vast number of people who are joining Facebook each day will give you an indication of its popularity. It has rapidly outgrowing all the social networking sites with the exception of MySpace.

Over time we will be able to collective change the world in a positive way once we recognize the positive potential in the tools we have at our disposal.

I like Facebook for the most part, but the news feeds and applications are getting a little out of hand if you ask me.

I find Facebook a great medium to enlighten people about Palestine and Israel. I am amazed at the amount of ppl that respond to the information i post. Every response i have got is positive or amazed that they didn't get the information anywhere else.

The organization aspect too is good. Every event that I organize I have to post on there. I am a Facebook addict. raphael...
