States want a ban on Myspace for sex offenders.
Article:
Top prosecutors from eight states want MySpace to tell them how many registered sex offenders have MySpace accounts.
The attorneys general said that in 2006 the media reported almost 100 crimes involving adults who used MySpace to prey or attempt to prey on children in the United States. They pointed to two cases in North Carolina, which is leading the charge to get answers from MySpace.
MySpace representatives did not immediately respond to calls requesting for comment. Representatives have said in the past that they support state efforts to ban sex offenders from MySpace.

I think this is kind of a good idea but not that effective. Yes the ban would stop sex offenders but there are other venues to get at teens or other youngsters. I think it is just legislation. Any comments?

I think they wanted to create legislation where people had to "prove" they are the age that they are, and not lie about their age, for example prove they are at least 14, or also, if they are actually 50 and are lying that they are 18, but I don't know how they would actually go about doing that- that is, getting members to prove what age they are. And I don't know what they (Myspace or lawmakers) would do if they found out people were lying about their age-whether claiming they were older or younger than they were. Either way, there does need to be some legislation and checks being done to help prevent the problem more.
