So, the president of the good old USA has decided to veto a bill that would stop waterboarding. What can you say to this really? Oh, it's torture. There's no debate about that in my mind. I guess I should have expected as much coming from a guy who executes the mentally handicapped and takes money away from the Boys and Girls Clubs. And that No Child Left Behind Act? That has done this country a whole lot of good. Somehow I don't think my sarcasm comes through over the computer...
What it comes down to is that I just don't like it when the only time there is a genuine interest taken in people in this country is when it is politically expedient.
The only other time is when it is in our economic interests. Like when we take out governments and put our own leaders in place or we attempt to enforce rules we will not follow ourselves. A good book to read about these kinds of things is "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" by John Perkins. He went into countries and destroyed their infrastructure in order that they might have to depend on us. We basically use these countries and they don't really get anything out of it. It made me angry and it was a wonderful book for that very reason. Check it out.
