waiting on the world to change

Tagged:  •    •

As presented by my name, I went to Virginia Tech for undergrad. After the events of last week at NIU, I sit here wondering, what is it going to take make the world change? After watching the events unfold on the news at both VT and NIU, it makes me wonder if the news isn't feeding these atrocities. People go out and murder other people every day, and the news feeds these people and makes them famous. . . sick, sick, sick. And what do we all do? We sit and watch it because we want to know "What was wrong with so and so to go do that?" I'd like to posit an alternative, a way of prevention, per say. Smile, talk, be friendly. Quit picking on people and ignoring those around you. Think about it, a smile and a talk from a stranger can go a long way, hell, it can stop people from commiting suicide. . . maybe if we were all just a little more nice to our neighbors, the people on the street, and to ourselves, we could make the world change.

Peace, love, and hippy justice-

Let me just tell you. My goal each day is to make one person smile whether I know them or not. But yes, the news definitely feeds all of these atrocities, but it won't stop anytime soon because the coverage helps the ratings and the ratings are everything in the end to a news station. Something definitely needs to be done to stop these things from happening.

i completly agree. i think a person has much more impact on others than they think. a simple smile could change someones entire day. people do need to give more to each other

Hippie Justice?! I love it and how appropriate.

I know about the VT thing but am unfamiliar with NIU event that you speak of. I want to know but my kids prevent me from sitting around watching the news to see 'what is wrong with these people'

What did you do to your schools to have bad things happen?...Terrible joke I know.
