Is it just me or is the Federal Government losing touch with it's US citizens? I see things like what almost happened a few months ago when the Congress almost made illegal immigrants legal. This went against what the majority of United States citizens wanted. Just think, what would have happened to Social Security if all those immigrants who hadn't been paying into the system suddenly became US citizens and demanded the benefits that Social Security gives to those retiring when the whole time they haven't been paying into the program. Then there's the way that this War on Terror is being run. If you look at how the fall of Nazi Germany came about. Every single business owner and public official HAD to be a registered member of the Nazi party. The Allies didn't kick all these people out because of the fact that they were Nazis and let many of them stay in business. But when we got rid of Saddam, we outlawed the Baath party that brought him to power. Many of the Baath party members were just ordinary poeple who ran the local governments and ultities. Now all of a sudden they are forced out of their jobs because they HAD to be a Baath member in order to carry on their businesses and jobs? Shortly after the de-Baathifcation, the Government of Iraq becomes unstable because the citizens of Iraq become discontented. Because of this, the Federal Government is sinking further into the Middle East than anyone thought.
Then the US Government passes the Patriot act. This act allows the Government to monitor ANYONE they believe is a terrorist. It also makes criticizing the Federal Government punishable by law. It sounds a lot like the Alien and Sedition Acts from the early 1800's. And now, the Supreme Court is reviewing the Right to Bear Arms because they believe that it will cut down on domestic terrorism. Is that right? Right in the Constitution Thomas Jefferson says that a Revolution now and then is GOOD for a republic in oder to keep the people in touch with the Government. It seems to me that the Government is becoming ineffective and lost touch with those who elect those responsible for running the country.

Something needs to be done about this. As soon as possible. You're right our government has taken a wrong turn and entered into a slump. It's going to be hard to set them straight, but if we don't our generation is screwed.

Unfortunately, I think we may be too late to do anything for OUR generation. It's the next one we need to worry about.
