My favorite day is Thursday. You may ask: why? My answer is: because it’s the only day that I’ve been able to get out of the house and do something for at least three hours straight. It keeps me out of “trouble,” makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something, and it takes my mind off the “friend” who I broke up with.
My mom and I go to the Zion Lutheran School in Bay City, MI to work as volunteers in the library for three hours (usually from 1 to 4 p.m.) every Thursday afternoon – weather permitting. My mom uses the typewriter to type up spine labels for the books, while I stick them on and tape them on. My mom also writes the numbers on the cards and I also do the “up-down” work of getting the books down off the shelf, putting them on the table, and putting them back up on the shelf in alphabetical and numerical order.
I love going there even though the hallway and bathroom smells like a locker room – which they don’t have. It helps to have a nice teacher who’ll always come in to say “Hi”. She also gives my mom and I both a free, small bag of fresh popcorn when they are selling it.
The school is planning on doing some remodeling in the future when they have the funds to do that and they want to update their library. By helping out at the library, my mom and I are helping the library progress. Hopefully, the books will be easier to find when a child wants a book to read or when a teen needs a book for a project he or she is working on. Also, with putting readable labels on the books, hopefully, more of them will get checked out.
