Diversity is a common element that all countries share, whether it is religious or cultural, there is always some aspect of difference no matter at what part of the globe. I do not think the real focus should be about diversity, but education on diversity. Variations in races and nationalities are central in looking at humanity as a whole, but finding out why those differences are the way they are, is much more important in understanding and preventing discrimination.
The problem with this big step in fighting prejudice and violence over religious issues or over different nationalities, is there is no way to change it through paths that do not involve education. There is absolutely no way to completely eliminate inequality with the methods we are using now. The reason why there is still discrimination throughout the world, even in the United States, is because it is a reflection on how people were raised. The biggest influence on a child’s life is their parents, and if the parents fill their head with hatred of everyone that is not the same, that is how they will grow up. They are surrounded with corrupt beliefs. They can not decipher what they are being told is morally wrong, it becomes the exact and only way to think. Their sense of right and wrong is shattered. Their morals take on a whole different direction and there is no way to stop this transformation.
The only way to get rid of hatred, is to get rid of the past, wipe everyone’s mind blank of their upbringing and history. But that is impossible. There will always be parents teaching their children ways of prejudice just like how they were taught when they were growing up, and so on. And once these ideas get imbedded into their mind, there is no chance of getting them out. People with strong beliefs no matter what they are about, do not have any desire to change. Once someone is old enough to take the idiocracies that they were always told, and rationalize them in their mind as being right and the only way, there is no turning them back from that point. That is why educating the younger generations of why there are differences not just that they are there, is the best strategy.
The one infamous failing cause that is going on right now in the world is the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. Even with education, Palestinian children are being taught that Israelis are inferior and descendants of pigs and monkeys. This is what is being learned from their textbooks. Something must change and it has to be the books that are being used in the schools. This will not have an immediate impact throughout the world, but it will gradually get better with time. If the education system improves, the next generation and the generation after that will slowly set aside those ancient rationales and come to terms with reality. We can break the chain, and weed out negative feelings without the price of war, just with the rewards of education.
