Even when you die for drinking and driving you still have to face the charges....

Lewis is gone now and for such a young person he has touched many lives. Even a month and a half later if you go to his myspace there are still people saying goodbye. He was a partyer I admit, but he never did drugs he just did what 22 years old guys do, have fun. The thing I want people to realize though and they might not know, but even when you have passed away in a drunk driving car accident you still have charges on you. Lewis has been gone for like I said a month and a half and he is still facing charges from supplying alcohol to minors. If these charges stick which they most likely will then his family will be the ones stuck paying these charges. The driver is not only being charged with drinking underage, reckless endangerment, speeding, but also homicide. He will face jail time, and even though me and Lewis's famly still has said we do not think he should have to go to jail, he still has to. They say he still has to because he has to make a statement to the rest of the young people in our lives. He is the prime example to all of us underage kids that drink and drive what will happen if you do. As for me although I was not drinking I did not get charged with anything. The only thing I could have been charged with was curfew, which the cops did not see fit because of all I had suffered. Most people would say I am lucky, that I got off easy. I am not lucky though. They let me off even though it wasn't a horrible crime violating curfew, but the fact that they let me go because of my pain and thinking that I had learned my lesson. Lewis died how much more pain can a person and their family go through than that and he and his family is still having to pay. Sometimes I just don't understand and I know life isn't always fair, but honestly please do not tell me you think this is right!

I dont like the idea of charging the family with the crime. I don't talk to my biological family. If one of them were in a drunk driving incident and I were pinned with the charges, I'd be pretty upset. The only person that should be responsible for the crime is the person who committed that crime.
