I've always wondered why Florida Governor Jeb Bush doesn't have that southern Texan accent like his older brother; weren't they raised in the same place? Then there's that overplayed statement that if George W. lost the bid as the governor of Texas, and Jeb won the first time he ran for governor of Florida, then the latter would be sitting in the oval office today instead. Many feel that Jeb Bush should've been chosen as president because he's "smarter" and "the more genuine conservative." Although Governor Bush denies making a presidential bid in 2008, in President Bush's last visit to Florida he declared that his brother would "make a great President."
Governor Bush is a devout Roman Catholic, quite apparent with his stance on the Terri Schiavo case. He's a wide supporter of school vouchers, but has tried to undo the Florida school class-size limit policy for public schools because he believed that was too expensive. There's also too much emphasis on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). High school students cannot graduate without passing the FCAT, and this test also plays a large factor in how much funding the school will receive based on a reward system in which the school's average FCAT score is given a letter grade (A-F); the higher the grade, the more the school receives. I've read somewhere that there has been a steady rise in Florida students' math and reading scores, but at the same time the high school graduating rate is ranked 47th in the nation; the last time I checked, the entire Florida system of education was ranked 47th in the nation. There's several loose screws in the child welfare agency (missing children reported/unreported), and then there was that state boot camp controversy, in which a teenager died from a beating by camp guards exercising the tough discipline policies that Governor Bush has long advocated.
I'm obviously against the idea of having another Bush for president, because this country should not be run by a dynasty. I do believe, though, that Jeb Bush is the more intelligent brother; and if he does run for president, then I fear that he'll do fairly well. But if Jeb Bush doesn't win a presidential election, I don't think he'll be too worried. There's already talk of his son, George P. Bush, a half-hispanic who looks exactly like his father, potentially getting into politics as well.
