So while the US is truly a happy medium amoung rising gas prices, what creates such a descrepancy?
Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline. In Venezuela, on the other hand, oil is produced by a government-owned company and local gasoline prices are kept low as a benefit to the nation's citizens.

This is so unreal. What I dont understand is why dont get oil from Venezuela. Why do we have to go to the other side of the world to get oil?
because hick-Bush is racist scum.

For one, we are not their most popular "friend."
Secondly, I think Venezula is only producing enough for their own, so as to not kill their supply (though I haven't researched this notion -- it is my own speculation).
We do get gas from Venezuela--CitGo is owned by Venezuela, so if you buy your gasolene there, you're helping Hugo Chavez help the Venezuelan and other South American peoples. Not to mention helping him provide discounted fuel oil to poor people in the USA.
And he's even thinking about doing a jobs program in the US! An amazing man.
You also have to include cost of living in each country to get a clear picture.
gas is gonna be $4 by this summer!
