Here is a mega list of solutions to lower Gasoline Prices
1. Tax the oil companies.- Tried before does not work.(ala Jimmy Carter)
2. Pass a law saying the oil companies must take their profits and put them in new refineries.
3 Lower the speed limit to 45 MPH-everyone gets mad but it works.
4. Force the farmers to sell soy and corn to ethanol refiners at a lower price-this works
5 Forced Gas rationing,-very unpopular but works
6 Government prints gas coupons-only way to get gas it works.
7. Mandate drilling in Alaska.
8 Mandate drilling in Montana.
9 Mandate off shore drilling.
10 President Bush tells the Saudis--produce more oil or we stop protecting you.
11 Government subsidies Gas Prices- working in other countries.
12 Outlaw Oil future speculators. This one works the best
13 Force Iraq to pay us in oil,
14 Government converts all cars to propane. Italy did this
15 Produce Gasoline from sugar cane it works.
16 Give people $5,000 to buy an electric car.
17 Begin production of hydrogen run cars.
18 Government builds small car plants for car companies.
19 pass a law saying every person can own one car.
20 Pray at the pump that gas prices come down.
This is what rest in peace thinks will work to put an end this:
End Oil Speculation.
Pray at the pump.
What do you think will work?
Solving this problem will bring food prices down with gasoline.
These are the opnions of Rest in Peace!

Nice ideas and very creative post.

leaders need to implement creative solutions.
Well I bought a Hybrid this year because I was tired of the amount I was spending on gas and realized it was time for a change. Electric cars would be nice and so would and incentive like that. I know when I buoght my car they told me about a similar tax deduction but not as much as 5000. Oh well good points how bout we drill our own oil since we have like enough to live off of for like 3 years or more?

they were still in development and too expensive.
The money you now get off on hybrid cars is on your taxes.
Drilling is best but there are more immediate solutions.
I got a really good deal... I went into the dealer and told them I wasnt going to pay more the 500 above invoice. Needless to say I got what I wanted for what I wanted to pay and I'm happy with my purchase. The cash back offers brought the price below invoice so I got a really good deal.

car dealers are pretty desperate these days....you handled it well.
My parents have an electric sitting in our garage. It's converted, ie used to be gas run. The batteries cost $600 so we have not used it yet.

gas tank every time $600 comes up fast!
Energy is energy and it does not matter if it is gasoline or electricity. When people start plugging cars into their electrical outlets they'll quickly figure out that electricity is a very expensive form of energy. Your gasoline bill might go down with an electric car but your utility bill will probably go up by at least an equal amount.
It takes a lot of energy to move a 2000 lb car down the road at a reasonable speed particularly if it has enough power to have decent acceleration. It does not matter if that energy comes in the form of gasoline or electricity, energy has gotten expensive.
The most expensive electricity is the green renewable kind. Neither the sun nor the wind are reliable so when a public utility invests in this kind of energy they have to build redundant generating capacity to cover electrical demand when the sun is not shining or the wind is not blowing. The capital investment is therefore double! The cheapest energy we have now is coming from nukes. Nukes used to be the most expensive energy but the capital investment has been fully amortized over the 20+ years since we built the last nuke. There was no reason that nuclear energy should have been expensive except that environmentalists caused such a ruckus. Since the capital costs are fully amortized, energy companies are just needing to cover the cost of fuel and maintenance and uranium is fairly cheap and a little dab goes a very long ways.
If you are going to advocated bringing down fuel costs with electric cars then you better include vastly expanding our electrical generating capacity and expanding our power grid along with that recommendation. We are already very close to maximum capacity in terms of our current generating and distribution capability. If you plug in millions of cars across the country the result will be a massive brown-out.
Hydrogen cars also place heavy demands on electricity. Hydrogen is an abundant element but it does not exist in pure, uncombined and concentrated form in nature. It will need to be manufactured by stripping it off of other compounds like water (H2O) or methane (CH4). The industry that will be required to create large amounts of pure hydrogen will be very electricity intensive.
If you want a REAL solution to expensive energy then it had better include building lots of nukes or it will not work. Nukes are the only practical way of cheaply expanding our energy supply.

Nuke energy is the most cost effective option---but stopping speculation in oil futures is very practical. too.
