What do you see when you turn on the televison? I, and as well as most people tend to see commericals and tv shows. However, these are saying a lot to our youth. In school teachers try to express the dangers of alchol. When a child goes home and sees a commerical of a young beautiful woman drinking and having fun, that child is associating beauty and fun with drinking which makes drinking sound not too bad afterall. Even commericals use heavier sex appeal vs. the commericials from the early 90's. Everyone says sex sells, but there are other ways to get the message across to sell a product. A parent cannot put the blocker on commericals which means the youth are coming home and seeing this and it is typically subliminally telling our youth that being overly sexual to get a point acorss is acceptable. Example, the Brittney Spears curious commerical is basically promoting sex and if you're curious go find out.
Then the television shows even on the cartoon and nickeloden channels show younger people around the age of 12 or 13 already kissing and dateing, which is expressing that those are alright values to have because that is what their favorite television charachter is showing. Also I feel the media is the culprit to why the younger girls dress the way they do. It's all about seeing something you want to be and trying to be like that paticular person. The media is what typically shapes our society and media has the power to change, but it seems to be getting worse which is making this a helpless battle.
Media = helplessness battle

Parents may not have the option to block commercials, but they do have the power to turn off the TV. All it takes is a parent who actually pays attention to what their child is doing instead of trusting a TV to raise their child.
