Keeping the Elderly Alive (Part 2)
Puzzles, word searches, sudoku, Boggle, crosswords, Scrabble, Jumble, Word up, Lingo; these are all types of puzzles. As the baby boomer generation grows older there are becoming more elderly in the United States. So how do we keep these folks coherent and looking good? Well besides a little exercise and some healthy food choices you need puzzles. There are so many types of puzzles as mentioned above; these puzzles challenge the brain, mathematics skills, and memory to solve/ complete them. These things are vital to keeping the elderly young; because it challenges them and keeps their sharpness. Puzzles can also help them recall past experiences and events with words or feelings.
It isn’t exactly sure when the puzzle was invented because they have been around forever. The puzzles are a great answer because the elderly may find puzzles more comforting in comparison to high tech gadgets such as video games. It also gives them something to relate to because at one point in our lives we have all played with a puzzle.
To me age is nothing but a number; I see 80 year olds running miles on the treadmill at my local YMCA; some still thinking they are 35. I think optimism and staying healthy can prolong the life by many years. During the Neanderthal human era the age expectancy was only 21 years of age. Over the years that age has continually increased but as begun to level off in the last couple of decades due to illness and diseases. Our country has so much technology to offer that there is no reason for us to live longer. Plus older folks can offer wisdom and ideas that we can use in our daily lives.
