Wendy's removes "Biggie" label from food, retains portion size

<Source: Yahoo News>

According to a recently reported story, the popular fast-food chain Wendy's will be removing the label "Biggie" from its food products, but will not actually be reducing the portion sizes of their offerings.  This movie has been compared, incorrectly, to McDonald's choice to remove the option to "Super Size" in 2004 following the release of the extremely disgusting but hard-hitting documentary, "Super-Size Me."  The difference lies in the fact that McDonald's actually removed the option to Super-Size, whereas Wendy's has simply renamed the "Biggie" portions.

It's not necessarily the case that Wendy's is responsible to reduce portion sizes in their meals, because people are still free to make choices regarding their food consumption and their health.  However, the fact that people who regularly visit Wendy's will be choosing options based on a different knowledge-base bothers some scholars.

But this raises yet another question entirely?  Is it really necessary to have extremely large drinks to fill our cars' extremely large drink-holders? Do we really need those extra French Fries?  Do we need to consume thousands of calories in one meal?  Probably not.  But at least people who order a Biggie meal know what they are asking.  A "large" doesn't seem quite as intense, but will actually provide the same portion quite soon.

(As a side note, have you ever tried to fit a modern "large" drink into a cupholder from the 1980s?  It doesn't fit.)

No one needs it, but we love to have it. On the general, that is. Americans love getting a lot of stuff for cheap .. and that's exactly what fast food does, even if it destroys arteries and hearts in the process.

personally....if my boyfriend and I go to wendy's he usually just gets a sandwhich and i get a meal. We biggie size it and share the side of fries and drink.

With that said, maybe the problem isn't fast food....maybe it's how we live our lives. Maybe we need to slow down, cook at home with our family all together (or cook meals that can be refridgerated/frozen as servings), not overinvolve ourselves.

Is it really faster to drive to wendy's, wait in line inside or at the drive through, order, wait more, and then get your food, and drive and then eat? How long does it take to cook pasta on the stove while you heat frozen veggies in the microwave, and make some grilled chicken on the George Foreman??

The same time.

It is NOT the restaurant's responsibility for society's stupidity.

  I don't think people should order a large drink from Wendy's (or any other fast-food restaurant) if they have soft drinks at their homes.
