Why is it that America is so stuck on race? Today Barack Obama answers critics questions about the words of his church's pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Why?
Why Does Barack have to denouce words used by another man? Fox News reported that Obama's pastor used anti-American and anti-white rhetoric. In a sermon delivered a few years ago he was recorded saying "God Damn America" instead of "God Bless America". I have three main problems with political critics of Obama making this story such a large one. Freedom of speech, the democratic process, and the reality that no one is REALLY white, or black.
First, we must realize the time we were in a few years back. We ALL as Americans were intrenched in a stalemate war with no end in sight. This war was a blunder in JUDGEMENT by the Justice Dept & White House. Rev. Jeremiah Wright was simply voicing his frustration with the lack accountability the govt. had concerning the Iraq War.
Secondly, when did questioning the mainstream idea of war become UnAmerican. Arent we each, as americans, supposed to have a freedom of speech. How can a topic with grave consequences such as war not be debated fully before a decision is made? Also when did questioning America's direction socially become anti-white? ABC News reported that, "sermons reviewed by ABC News, from videotapes sold by the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, reflect Rev. Wright's repeated attacks on the U.S. government as a "racist and arrogant superpower that does not value its black citizens." Is that racist, or is that a social commentary based on his personal experiences? Shouldnt social commentary be open to ANY understanding? not just what political critics and media outlets CHOOSE to broadcast?
Also wouldnt it be alot more sensible as "true Americans" (whomever they are?) to dispell Rev. Wrights thoughts by simply and publically embracing ALL persecuted peoples, instead of directly attacking it.
Lastly,The whole BLACK, WHITE thing. No one is entirely Black, or white. After years of procreation between all peoples racial lines are beginning to blur. PBS recently, for Black History Month, did a special tracing the ancestors of famous Black americans. coupled with the use of DNA analysis PBS and the shows host Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr revealed that the average "African American" is 18-25% white. For example Mr. Gates himself is 50% white although both his parents indentify with the "African American" race. Because of years of master/slave relations his family, whom still live in the same town as their enslaved ancestors, are all 50/50. Don Cheedle, a clear "black man" with "ebony" skin is 18% white. There was even a woman who identified herself as "white" who was accually only about 76% white, and 24% BLACK.
With this said, I feel that although racism is no longer an institution, it IS used whenever the opportunity presents itself. Although is it not PC to be a racist, it is acceptable to use the words of a frustrated leader to draw racist lines in the sand. Barack Obama, to me is buckling under the pressure, to not seem like a racist. The speech he is giving is to appease those who will tolerate a President with a different family lineage,
but who will not tolerate his affiliations with that lineages established leaders.
Racism is Still here and until a person stands up and says, "Listen to what I say, not those who you think I identify with." we will never truly see progress. Isnt that what we're all here for?

I agree. As much as we might say differently, racism is still a big issue in this country.
Also, just a small thing I'd like to point out: Rev. Jeremiah Wright's sermon "God Damn America" was delivered after 9/11, not after the Iraq War. Wright claimed that America was responsible for the attacks of 9/11 because, essentially, the country had fallen away and rejected God. That's why Obama is trying to distance himself from Wright.

correction...he did make that comment after 911....and honestly I feel the same way...if America didnt have its imperial hands all over the oil, and within the middle east.....America wouldnt have been public enemy #1 to islamic jihadists.......
If Bush really wanted to keep us SAFE....just withdraw the troops from all middle eastern bases and declare that America will no longer POLICE the world.
