Once again, the government has screwed poor people. The latest issue is on health insurance. Josh from Talking Points Memo mentioned Saturday that one Conservative talking point would be that Americans are over-insured. Yes, you read that correctly, they believe that Americans have too much health insurance. This is not just idle BS. From the New York Times:
Millions of low-income people would have to pay more for health care under a bill worked out by Congress, and some of them would forgo care or drop out of Medicaid because of the higher co-payments and premiums, the Congressional Budget Office says in a new report. The Senate has already approved the measure, the first major effort to rein in federal benefit programs in eight years, and the House is expected to vote Wednesday, clearing the bill for President Bush.
Yeah, that is exactly what poor people need; to pay more for health insurance. Meanwhile the rich get a tax cut and college students get $12 billion taken from student loan programs. Another example of the government catering to its rich constituents instead of all its constituents.

The things that the government come up with makes me ashamed to be a voter or political science major. Maybe if these people that write the bills were poor for a year then they can understand what its like having to pay for health insurance that you already can't afford before a rise in insurance.
I am APPALLED by this new bill that Congress has worked out. I mean, isn't it the responsibility of the government to make a better like for EVERYONE and not for the people who already have a better life?! I want to scream out in ANGER because as citizens our hands are tied behind our backs. How are we to stop this from happening? Please continue to update us with this information.
100% agree! This bill is definitely appalling. First of all, how and why did this pass in the Senate??? I feel like politicians have no grasp of reality! America has so many poverty stricken citizens, we all know that. ISN'T THE POINT TO HAVE LESS OF THEM. NOT MORE???? how this possibly makes sense to anyone is beyond me. another reason why i am considering NOT being a political science major...this administraion makes me sick! i wish there was somethign more we all could do to help out those who really need it, not the rich jerks with friends running the country.
Jesus, that makes me physically ill.
I mean, there's a reason why the trickle-down theory is also called voodoo economics. IT DOESN'T WORK.
The theory the bill is supporting isnt tricle-down economics, its a liberatarian concept. The idea of removing government programs lowers taxes, as well as lowers the actual cost of living while keeping the wage the same. At least thats how it works in theory.
