Political correctness is such a complicated dance. One misstep, and you get mean looks from everyone else on the floor, or possibly slapped in the face with a lawsuit.
Here's what I think: Why should WASPs cater to every other racial/ethnic/religious/lifestyle group? People can make fun of "whites" all they want but the latter are not allowed to counterattack.
I think political correctness is such a crock. Everyone's always walking on eggshells around certain groups, and that's what makes our politicians (and the Pope) stretched so thin. If everyone just said what they wanted to say to anyone at any given time, there would be a lot of hurt feelings, it's true--but there's nothing like dealing a sharp retort to someone who's just gravely insulted you. Two wrongs don't make a right, but they are pretty satisfying nonetheless.
That's what freedom of speech should be about.
