Legal across the Border

Mexico is proposing a law that will make small amounts of drugs such as heroine and cocaine legal.. A spokesman for President Fox said that he would sign the bill so that the police could focus more on the bigger issue, Violent drug gangs..

"The president is going to sign that law. There would be no objection," he said. "It appears to be a good law and an advance in combating narcotics trafficing."

-An Advance? you're legalizing it.. meaning people can actually have it now.. how is that advancing it? Is anyone seeing how that will help? cause I'm not.

With the new law, people could legally possess up to 25 milligrammes of heroin, 5 grams of marijuana (about one-fifth of an ounce, or about four joints), or half a gram of cocaine.

Why is America involved? because they fear that the drugs will carry over into the U.S.
-Oh, just from where I've been, travelling from Cali. into Mexico and back.. I guarantee California's drug problem is going to skyrocket! You know the people over there must be ticked! well, the business men anyway, i'm sure the reggae surfers are loving it!

Mexico government really needs to number one, tell their citizens who are in the US illegally to go back; number two, monitor whatever President Fox is signing into law.

Actually, I think America should be first in line behind President Fox in allowing its citizens to possess drugs. We supposedly live in a free country and yet I am not free to decide what should and shouldn't enter my blood stream -- how is that free?

Allowing access will not encourage people to bring things across the border any more than they already do. It is still illegal here and will be treated accordingly.

In my opinion, Mexicans are on the right path. If they allow drugs to be held in small amount then the only persons violating law are drug dealers -- and that is where your problems lie. If drugs were accepted and allowed less people would have to go to extreme measures (i.e. robbery or murder) to get them. In addition, after a while of concentrating on drug lords, maybe they could actually wipe them out -- eliminating the drug problem all together.

I know that not many agree with me and I'm fine with that. But I think in order to be progressive we have to realize that (1) we cannot control what Mexicans sign into law and (2) perhaps drugs aren't as bad as we are told.

All that writing of yours, only one I agree with - America government should not and cannot control other countries' businesses.

Your theory about you have the rights to what enters your veins is, pardon me, very self-fish like. The US government will spend a lot of taxpayers' money to help you rehabilitate in clinical cares if you do get addict to drugs; unless of course, you choose to not accept the help.

I'm not asking the govt to fix any addiction I have. But in a FREE country I think that it is my choice whether or not I take in said drug/herb/narcotic/toxin.

You don't need to ask. The government, on some critical policies, makes decisions that are best for its people. And to see you dying from drug addiction is not humane; being the biggest philanthropist, America naturally will help you.
